BRASS (Copper Zinc Alloy) |
Brass is not an officially recognized mineral as yet, although it has been proposed.
It is not the man-made brass that is under consideration, but specimens of naturally occurring crystals of a copper nickel alloy with a formula similar to what we know as brass.
These specimens are also not common, but are extremely rare and have only been found in a couple of localities in Siberia, Russia.
Brass could be considered an official mineral if the naturally occurring crystals prove to have a unique structure and chemistry from other copper nickel alloys.
That may prove difficult or impossible and if so, brass will then be discounted as a mineral.

17542. Alloy selection for patina brass parts [Florida] |
We manufacture copper tabletops and apply a patina and wax sealer
on these. We have made thousands of these and have become quite good
at color and visual texture uniformity. We are now getting into an
antique brown Patina on a BRASS ALLOY. The patinas on brass seem more
fragile that those on copper. We can use one of 3 alloys: Red Brass
C2300, Muntz C2800 or Navel bronze C4640. My questions are: Is one of
these alloys better suited to a brown patinization? And.. Is the
"fragile nature" of my brass patina inherent to the metal
