Stainless steel tubing includes flow lines for fluids and gases in pneumatic, hydraulic, or process applications, or specialized uses such as medical or food processing. Stainless steel tubing is chemical and corrosion resistant and can have relatively high-pressure ratings.
Stainless steel tubing is widely used in industrial applications. It is tough, durable and can be processed into many shapes and sizes. It can be flexible stainless steel tubing or rigid stainless steel tubing, depending on the material and its purpose. It holds a middle ground between pipe, which is generally far more rigid, and hose, which is generally more flexible.
Some of the differentiators between types of stainless steel tubing include shape, its fitting type, and whether it is English or metric stainless steel tubing. Although steel pipe is generally round or circular, it is not unusual to find square stainless steel tubing or rectangular stainless steel tubing. When designed, tubing can be of seamless or fixtured design. Seamless stainless steel tubing is rolled or processed as one long tube, which can be attached in full size, or cut as the application requires. Fitting stainless steel tubing is created in equal sized pieces, which are fixed together (either by welding, threads, or external fittings) as required by the application.
